Blog Bat Around: Spending $1,600 on Cards

Luckily not literally or actully but if I ever had that amount of money and had to spend it on sports cards I would spend it on. CLICK HERE for more info on this contest.

1.  PATRICK ROY & MARTIN BORDEUR UD THE CUP ENSHRINEMENTS DUAL AUTOS 3/35 ON CARD (Asking $333) A very cool dual auto of hockey's greatest goalies.

2.  Derrick Rose/ Jonathan Toews/ Alexei Ramirez Triple Auto: Rose and Toews are 2 of Chicago's best athletes with me slowly becoming a Sox Fan. (Price: $319.99) One of the Ultimate Chicago Sports fans cards.
3. 1991-92 Pro Set Patrick Roy ($450): This is just a cool card with a signature that you never see from a legend. Patrick Roy (MY main PC guy) usually signs autographs but NEVER uses his full name so this would be sick.
So far $1,102.99+399.00
4. 12-13 SP GAME USED GAME GEAR PATRICK ROY ($399.00):  Still sticking with my main PC guy this game used card is absolutely SICK. A jersey, Patch, Tag, and a piece of the fight strap, Just purley amazing.

So far total: $1,501.99

5. 2009-10 UD Trilogy JONATHAN TOEWS ($97.38):  I really enjoy Ice cards with the see through look and Toews is my 2nd favoprite all Time player. One of the Chicago Blackhawks players today.

6. 11/12 titanium game worn gear Jonathan Toews ($0.99): A sweet 3 color patch from the Blackhawks Captain Tazer.

TOTAL So Far: 1599.98

7. Ryan Miller Crease Cleaners Jersey ($0.01): A very cool 2 color jersey of a Olympic Supersar goalie.
8. Brian Hayward mask card ($0.01): I have always enjoyed the look of the shark on Haywards mask so this would be a decten card to finish off the price. I also love actally swimming Sharks.

So that is what I would spend my $1600.00 on and I would be pretty happpy with these purchases.

TTM: Bobby Smith

Sent: 12/3/12

Received: 4/19/13

Just received and picked up when I got home late from the Hawks game last night.

Bobby Smith wasn't a huge star but he did have a few nice accomplishments. One was at the beginning of his career before the NHL when he beat Wayne Gretzky for most points in the QMJHL (Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) which brought home a scoring title, Red Tilson Trophy as he league's most outstanding player and was voted CHL Player of the Year for the entire Canadian Hockey League during the 1977-78 season. With success in juniors talent scouts noticed him and was drafted first overall in the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft by Minnesota. It wouldn't stop there as he lived up to his hype and won the Calder Trophy for top rookie in 1979. But it was quiet after that until he was sent to Montreal and won a Stanley Cup with the Canadiens in 1986. After his playing days he joined the Phoenix Coyotes and became their general manager from 1996 to 2000.

Nowadays, Smith is currently the Majority owner of the Halifax Mooseheads in the QMJHL and a team he coached for most of the 2010-11 season.

TTM: Chris Osgoood

Sent: 3/25/13

Received: 4/11/13 (3/4, kept 2011-12 Between the Pipes Decades card)

When I found this in the mail I was super Shocked and psyched to get 3 signed cards by a Detroit legend.  Most of my TTM's are by older players I don't know much about but I definitely know who Osgood is.
Statistically Osgood is Detroit's 2nd best franchise goalie in wins and shutouts behind the legenary Terry Sawchuck. He played in the great 90's goal-tending era with Brodeur, Roy, Osgood, and Mike Richter were all just pure great goalies.

A surprise and shocker about his career is that he spent little time on 2 other teams the the St. Louis Blues and the New York Islanders but people will still remember him from his time on a star studded Detroit team with Yzerman, Shannah, Lidstrom and Sergei Fedorov that won back to back Stanley Cups in 1997 and 1998 then later in 2008 still with Lidstrom, Zetterberg, and Pavel Datsuyk. Today Osgood helps out Detroit as their Goalie Developmental Coach

This return helped out 3 sets in my All Goalies, Between the Pipes and 2010-11 SP Authentic. SP Authentic is not a big or poular set but with the player images on a white background it makes the autograph perfect.

TTM: Joe Daley

Love the Evil grin on his face

Sent: 3/25/13

Received: 4/11/13

So I had a VERY BIG mail day yesterday receiving 3 different returns (2 ttm & 1 eBay).

Mr. Daley was a goaltender who played for the Winnipeg Jets, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings and the Buffalo Sabres in the 1970's (as from the BTP decades card) he did not have a strong net presence but was a decent netminder never the less. It was not easy playing in a time without a mask.

Today Daley owns and works in his own card shop called Joe Daley's Cards, which the cards were sent to. It is really cool to see former players who own their own card shops and have a interest in the collecting hobby. I am pretty happy to get 2 Between the Pipes cards signed by him.

TTM: Tyler Bunz

Sent: 3/25/13

Received: 4/4/13

Drafted by Edmonton Oilers 5th round (#121 overall) 2010 NHL Entry Draft

Current with the ECHL's Stockton Thunder, Bunz is looking like he could be in Edmonton in a few years after a stop he plays in Oklahoma City with the Barons, which is the next step up after the ECHL, so he could be good. Young Goal tending is something that Edmonton needs right now to make them a complete team since they have 3 current 1st overall picks and a kid named Jordan Eberle, Khabibulin is the only thing stopping them from being great.

Bunz signed 3/3  though I told him to keep the extra if he wanted but now I am putting on the Sale/ Trade list. But it adds to 2 sets.

2010-11 BTP: 8/190
2011-12 BTP: 17/200
